Pokemon Sun and Moon: 5 of The Best New Pokedex Entries

As we all travel through the new region of Alola in Pokemon Sun  and Moon we will surely be discovering a lot of new Pokemon and with them learning about the lore of the Pokemon world. Every generation is accompanied by a Pokedex full of new entries, both expanding on the information about our favorite Pokemon we’ve known for years and adding entries for the new friends were just gaining access to. So we’ve perused some of the new entries and picked 5 that stand out for various reasons and seem to add something interesting to the lore of the Pokemon world.

#5: Slowpoke

079slowpoke

With this new generation, we get a response to the long-standing questions about how Slowpoke feels about people eating its tail. The answer is found in Sun’s Pokedex:

” Its long tail often breaks off. It doesn’t really feel any pain, though, and the tail grows back, so Slowpoke isn’t particularly bothered.”

So the new Pokedex entry confirms it, Slowpoke is totally OK with you eating its tail. Maybe those Team Rocket grunts from Gold and Silver weren’t so evil after all?

#4: Pyukumuku

pyukumuku

Many Pokemon battle in strange ways using various parts of their body. Pyukumuku however, takes the strange to a whole new level. The entry from Sun’s Pokedex reads:

“It lives in shallow seas, such as areas near a beach. It can eject its internal organs, which it uses to engulf its prey or battle enemies.”

So it just sort of shoots it organs out to attack you. This is probably more effective as psychological warfare than anything else.

#3:Alolan Vulpix

600px-037vulpix-alola

Vulpix’s Alolan form switches its type to Ice, and apparently, it’s power transfers well into this form. The entry in Sun’s Pokedex explains further:

” It exhales air colder than -58 degrees Fahrenheit. Elderly people in Alola call this Pokemon by an older name-Keokeo.”

So Alolan Vulpix can potentially freeze things with its breath, and the older locals have a completely different name for it. This opens up some interesting details for lore speculators about Pokemon history.

#2: Toxapex

250px-748toxapex

A new Pokemon this gen and the evolution of Mareanie, these Pokemon are predators to the adorable generation two’s Corsola. Although what makes their Pokedex entries interesting is the Moon entry:

” Those attacked by Toxapex’s poison will suffer intense pain for three days and three nights. Post-recovery, there will be some aftereffects.”

So, what are the aftereffects? It’s interesting to wonder exactly what type of long term damage a poison could cause. It also must be a very well recorded incident of it poisoning people to know it takes exactly three days and nights for anyone afflicted.

#1: Araquanid

250px-752araquanid

Everyone loves reading the disturbing side of Pokemon, and every generation introduces some dark Pokedex entries. This one is extra disturbing, because the entries contradict each other, leading it to seem like the new Pokemon Araquanid may be a sneaky monster. The Moon Pokedex entry reads:

” Despite what its appearance suggests, it cares for others. If it finds vulnerable, weak Pokémon, it protectively brings them into its water bubble. ”

That sounds lovely until you read Sun’s Pokedex entry:

” It delivers headbutts with the water bubble on its head. Small Pokemon get sucked into the bubble, where they drown. ”

Horrifying. But what’s worse is that whoever wrote the entries had to purposely put a hint in that Araquanid actually pretends to help weak Pokemon, only to actually kill them most likely for food. It’s dark, but it’s also an interesting thing to discover when comparing the versions and is a well-placed detail.

So, those are five of the most interesting Pokedex entries for Sun and Moon that we’ve seen so far. They, of course, are an opinion and grabbed our attention for different reasons and they’re definitely not the only interesting ones.

What are your favorite entrees? Let us know in the comments below!

New Pokemon Possibly Coming To Go

A few days ago one of the latest updates for Pokemon Go came out with an extra surprise in the code for diggers to find.  Hidden inside the trove of code was the names of 100 Pokemon from the second generation of games. This is giving many hope that we are looking at a whole new reason to play the game.

The second generation of Pokemon is arguably known as one of the most popular generation that came out.  This will most ideally breath back life into the quieted Go fanbase if announced. Due to most people now having gathered the complete number of Pokemon and the increasingly colder weather, the user base has seen a good amount of decline for now.

If this generation is released during the colder months of the year, hopefully, we will be able to find Pokemon inside some heated shops. That being said even if we do have to make our way through some snow to find our poke friends I’m sure we will have a lot of other users trudging along with us.

Whar do you think, do you want the second generation to come out now or later?

Pokemon Sun and Moon, Possible Changes.

Pokemon Sun and Moon are bringing with them several changes to the Pokemon formula. Not only are classic Pokemon getting new forms just for the new regions, the official site even states that the region operates on its own terms and is quite different than anything we have visited before.  The regions are getting rid of day and night cycles to push their story forward instead of focusing on the formula.

Sun and Moon are taking some drastic turns compared to the other handheld games in the series.  First off they seem to be leaning towards giving the Alola region itself deep bits of lore and it’s own history, which they will use to change the core gameplay mechanics we are used too.  As it appears now we may even forgo the classic gym battles and possibly the Elite Four in exchange for island based challenges.  We have been told that islands will have leaders called Kahunas that will be challenged when you finish trials on the islands. The trials will vary from battles to finding items to progress in the island’s quests. After you finish gathering your quest item you will be challenged by a boss know as a totem Pokemon.

Totem Pokemon will be larger than other Pokemon of the same name and have special abilities. When in battle with them they will also have the option to call in other Pokemon to fight you as well. There are 5 islands you have to make it through one of which is man made instead of being nature based like the rest.  If you manage to make it through the totem you will then end up in the Grand Trial for the island that once beaten will give you recognition across the region and allow you to progress in the story. We aren’t completely sure how the progression will take place at the moment, but it can only be assumed that we are taking out gyms as we have seen art for everything but leaders at this point.

On top of all of this, there will be two different organizations as well as ultra beasts that you will get entangled with. Team Skull is the suspected bad guys of the generation and have the mysterious Type Null Pokemon by their side, in the story; they will mess up trial sites and be involved in robbing trainers of their Pokemon.  The Aether Foundation has constructed a man-made island to take in and care for different Pokemon, they also do research on the mysterious ultra beasts that threaten the island.  Finally, Ultra Beasts are mysterious Pokemon that are named with code words that have been causing disasters around the Alola region for unknown reasons, we do not know how many there are or what they currently want.

Along with all these changes, there will be new Z moves that involve buying a separate item to use. The Z- watch will be sold in stores with Z crystals and will link to your 3DS to be used in battle. Other than these changes we are still waiting to find out more information about the changes in Sun and Moon. On the bright side it looks like Pokemon-Amie will be returning in a new version and we have confirmed avatar customization for your trainer.

Pokémon GO Pokedex Case

Back in the nineties when Pokemon first swept the United States they released wave after wave of merchandise that found its way onto playgrounds all over the country. One of the most sought after was the Pokedex, a working version of Ash Ketchum’s first Pokedex was released that included an entry for all original 151 Pokémon and had stats, sounds, and unique animated sprites for each Pokémon. This toy was extremely popular because it made kids feel like they could really run around and catch Pokémon in the real world. Now, with the release of Pokémon GO it seems like the days of replica pokedexes would be over, but an Etsy user has defied that sentiment by making a phone case replica of the original Pokedex, so now with your Pokedex in hand you can really catch them all and fill Pokedex entries while feeling like you’ve really delved into the world of Pokémon!

The case itself looks fantastic, there’s a high level of detail and it does not come apart to wrap around your phone like most modern cases. Instead, this case allows a bottom piece to detach and your phone is slid into place and held by the same plate you removed. The case also has the option to have the logo of Valor, Mystic or Instinct on the front cover, or you can opt for a plain cover if you so choose. The latest version of the case also includes an aim assist or for throwing pokeballs. This is actually a slide you can unlatch from one side of the case and overlay on your phone’s screen to make throwing your pokeballs straight much easier. There are several cases that have this feature, but all of them seem to be fixed to the screen, so when not catching Pokémon the slide would be in your way, but this Pokedex case resolves that issue by allowing you to simply snap the slide back into the case cover.

The case is available on Etsy from the user AnimaSpiritus for $39.02USD. The version covered here is Mark 2, and actually hits at a fair price considering the cases are handmade. That also means there aren’t always a ton of them available so be sure to grab one before they get bought out or you may have to wait for more to be made before you can get yours!

Or you can check out a few more options on Amazon for Pokedex Phone Cases as well.

Pokémon GO Portable Pokeball Chargers

Since the release of Pokémon GO it seems that many people have acquired portable chargers to assist with playing the game for long periods of time without having to stop to recharge their phone. However, a majority of these chargers available are simple rectangular blocks with no details save for their USB ports on one side or maybe a logo. So it only makes sense that someone decided that these portable batteries should be made to fit more into the immersion of playing Pokémon GO. This lead to the Pokeball charger.

The most common one available is a standard sized Pokeball with several variants you can choose from to fit your style. They have capacities ranging in the 10000 to 12000 mAh range, and can charge your phone several times over. They even have LED lights on the ball to give it a more advanced look. There are several design options, the chargers come in three ball variants of standard red, a black luxury ball, and a pink ball similar to the lesser known love ball. Each one can also have your team logo of choice pictures on the top half of the ball. The charger port is located on the front center of the ball, where one would normally expect the opening mechanism to be located.

The chargers all look amazing, and you can find them on eBay for $18.99 USD, which is actually pretty fair considering the cost of most similar powered chargers being the same if not more. If you really wanted to immerse yourself in Pokémon GO you could combine this charger with the Pokedex phone case we covered to get a full set of poke-gear for all your hunting needs!

Pokemon Origins Is The Best Pokemon Series For Adults, You May Have Missed.

Pokemon Origins is the “adult” version or more so than the normal anime you find on Cartoon Network and other kids channels that you never knew you needed. While the normal anime series, especially if you watch it anywhere other than Japan, is rather childish and played down. Origins shines as a great alternative for adult fans of the series or anime genre. The show has more realistic violence, suspense, and overall darker tones that fit well in with the comic series.  It’s also only four OVA episodes making it an easier watch to get through than the 940 episode, and ongoing, original.

Pokemon Origins can be found officially on Youtube for your viewing pleasure. The series was initially released online for free to promote the latest released generation of Pokemon games X and Y. This version to many fans surprise was a drastic turn around for the series and featured the original region of Kanto and trainer Red. It also kept to a strict storyline instead of focusing on a monster of the week type episode or trying to stuff all the 151 original Pokemon in at once, which was quite refreshing for the game and comic fans. Origins also had a pretty solid voice cast behind it for the English language which can often be found lacking within such a quickly ported show.

The story follows the adventures of Red through the events of the first Pokemon game and his rival Blue, who are competing to become Pokemon league champions. Throughout the series, many popular gym leaders and battles are shown with beautiful detail worked in.  The music is also taken straight from the games with little modification and when an episode ends they even put in an old school save screen to act like the progress Red made that episode is saved to a cartridge. The series has many more cool little throwbacks to Red, Blue, and Green to enjoy as you are watching it.

Episode breakdown:

Episode 1:  Red and Blue Choose their first Pokemon from Professor Oak’s lab to set off on their adventure with. They end up in a short battle between their starters, then Red leaves to win his first gym battle at Pewter City.

Episode 2: This episode focuses on Lavender town and the intro of team Rockets Schemes.  Red learns of a Cubone that was chased by Team Rocket, who then ended up killing it’s mother Marowak. The Poke Flute that awakens Snorlax is also obtained from Mr.Fuji.

Episode 3: Follows the Silph Company take over by Team Rocket. The episode flips through the rest of the gyms Red must win. then goes on to the final gym battle between Red and Giovani.

Episode 4: This episode focuses on Red taking over the Pokemon Leauge and facing Blue in his final trainer test. Then afterwards it has Red going through Cerulean Cave to capture and tame the Mewtwo that escaped from the laboratory on Cinnabar Island.

If you end up enjoying the Origins series be sure and check out Pokemon’s newest project titled Generations. Generations episodes are shorts that will cover famous in-game moments.

Get Ready For Halloween With The Pokemon Center!

What most people don’t usually think of when shopping for certain holidays is the great selection of themed merchandise that Pokemon can provide them. Each season/holiday the premier and official mostly online store the  “Pokemon Center” comes up with and releases fun lines of merchandise for fans to buy for a limited time. With the Fall season having just started and the month for pumpkins and spooks upon us, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the great collectibles available from the Pokemon Halloween Circus line. The line ranges between 9.99 USD and 29.99 USD.

The Pokemon Center has currently released 18 collectible Halloween themed Pokemon items for you to choose from. These items range from a fun postcard to send to your friends, to collectible plushies of Pikachu dressed in stylish costumes. Each piece from the collection is a limited run and may never be sold again. If kept as a collectible you have a pretty great chance of their value staying at least near what you paid for them. The store is limited in locations in the U.S. and Japan most notably appearing in Tokyo and New York City. Most of their business is done online because of this and they keep their website updated at all times and extremely tidy with easy navigation. The price ranges are slightly high, but no more than most other branded merchandise and the shipping is priced rather decently with a scale according to the number of items you are currently purchasing.

Moving on to the actual collection you should know that most items are of the plushie breed. There are a few exceptions like the postcard mentioned above that features both costumed Pokemon and ghost types decorating its cover. There is also a pin set that features Pikachu in costume as well as Gengar, Duskull, Golbat, and Mismagius. Lastly for the non-plush items, you can pick up a keychain featuring Pikachu dressed as a jester on one side an Eevee as a pirate on the other.

Moving on to the plushies there is quite a bit to pick from especially since most of them have a few size variations to choose from for your personal enjoyment.  The first plush is a Pumpkaboo standard size plush that is like the plushies you will find on sale in chain stores across the globe. Next up is a Pikachu with a “King of Rock” costume featuring a guitar and a crown that is about 6.5 inches. If you’re looking for something bigger they have an 8.5 inch Pikachu Jester plush that has an optional keychain plush version.  To round out the Pikachu line they have a Pika Pumpkin plush in 4 different styles that include a card case as well as a plushie hat. Next is Eevee who is in the same pirate costume that’s on the keychain from the line. Evee stands at 7.5 inches tall, it should be noted that the cape she is wearing is modeled after a Drifloon.

Last we have a few cute keychains that you can buy if you want something cheap to clip on to your bag, You can choose from Plusle or Minun who are both dressed as pumpkins.  The eeveelutions Espeon and Umbreon are present with a  Mismagius-style  costume for Espeon and Zubat styled costume for Umbreon.  To finish everything up there is a Drifloon wearing Zubat ears available that might just be the cutest crossover that has ever been invented!
